Oooo, like WAY STOKED!

Posted by thesinger on May 30, 2008

Ok, the title gives it away. I’m just plain downright stoked! I’m leaving in the morning from Wichita Mid-Continental Airport at 7:35 and am going to arrive sometime in the evening at my host’s house. I’m looking forward to a relaxed day of reading book, running around in airports, listening to music on my iPod, etc. What a way to spend the day!

christianmusiccamp.com is where you can find info on the camp. It’ll be a howl! I just found out that I know a kid from ES that’ll be there. That makes me hyper!! I think I’m hyper. Did you catch on that I’m hyper?

This is a party. . .

Posted by thesinger on May 26, 2008

We’re sitting around the table and listening to rnisly expound about how that cow gas could be harnessed for who knows what purpose. . .  It’s a coffee party, and we have had our ample share of caffeine for the morning. Craig and Ra actually showed up at this coffee party and Ra actually drank some real cappuccino and some coffee made in the El Salvadoran style.  I’m amazed.

Rnisly, Jacob, Kevin, Sheri, Anja, and the aforementioned couple are the willing participants of this awesome gettogether. It’s a shame and a pity that we don’t do it more often. . .

Today is Memorial Day here in the US. In practicality it means that today is a vacation day instead a day of hard, physical labor. I like. . .

The rest of the day will be filled with parties with the cousins and maybe some good times at a gym somewhere. Can’t say that I’m invited yet, but that chance always exists. . .

Tootles to everybody and many happy returns!!!

The Center Youth Column in the Honorable “Plain Talk”

Posted by thesinger on May 25, 2008

Yes, I write a column for the local churches’ monthly newsish kind of thingy on the activities of the Center Youth Group. (The magazine is called “Plain Talk”) Marvin left a comment on my last post about how I should post it on my blog. Since he is a good friend and a worthy adviser, I will accept his suggestion. Below is the aforementioned column:

“For this month, I will reject the idea that every youth activity must be duly recorded and inserted into the annals of the honorable Plain Talk. Rather, I will pick the more notable events, and expound on them in greater depth.

On Friday evening, April 25, we, the youth, hosted a banquet for all church members age sixty-five and older. Different responsibilities were given to the youth. Some provided valet parking while others created the food. (By the way, it was an ambrosial meal!) Several ushered the people to their seats, and a lone photographer (me) walked around shooting pictures. The primary goal of the evening was to make “the older generation” feel loved and appreciated by “the younger generation.” To the extent that this was accomplished, we say, “Thank You God!”

The guests were seated in such a way that across from every couple were two or three empty seats. These empty seats were then filled with youth, who, in general, had a wonderful time of communicating with the guests.

Our guests were given the opportunity to bless us by sharing stories from their childhood, their youth group days, and the way life operated when modern transportation was not available, when trips to town were something special, and when walk-a-mile was a legitimate and normal game to play at singings. We heard stories about men who impacted lives; we heard of some practical jokes that were administered to innocent victims at railroad crossings; above all, we heard and learned much from the wisdom that the older generation shared with us. I believe we as youth have a responsibility to learn all that we can about where we came from so that we make intelligent decisions about where we should go. To our guests, I say a big thank-you for coming and sharing with us from your heart.

On Sunday, May 11 the youth gathered at the only local Beachy-owned car dealership, Oatney Automotive, for our weekly singing. I would like to primarily comment on the sound/acoustics that we experienced because of the location. The sound had more space than the usual living room to bounce around and therefore created a somewhat larger/richer sound, overall. Because the ceiling is lined with plywood, however, the sound was absorbed and hollow-sounding instead of vibrant and alive. To summarize, because of the larger space and plywood-lined ceiling, it was a huge, absorbed sound. To sing in a large space was pleasant for something different.

Youth Chorus has started and we are making music unto the Lord. Already, the songs are becoming alive with depth and meaning, and the music, for the most part, is advancing as well. Chorus is a good time!!!

The Annual Youth Picnic occurred on Saturday, May 17. The all day event was pleasurable and even relaxing, unless, of course, you played sports, or swam in the river, or went canoeing, etc., etc. In the morning some time after we arrived at Camp Mennoscah, about ten of us youth practiced the B.O.D.Y. skit, which is a skit that dramatically shows how each member of the body must do his/her own job, and not someone else’s. We then performed the skit during the morning meditation as the main subject matter.

Allow me the privilege to stand on my soapbox and verbalize some thoughts that were stirred up because of the B.O.D.Y. skit: “Because our church is ‘large,’ one of our difficulties is finding the job that matches the abilities, gifts, and talents of each member. The skit said how that each member do the job he/she is good at. I’m saying that each member, including youth, needs to have a job that fits him/her so that he/she can feel needed/useful/loved/etc. To suggest that an easy solution lies just around the corner would be a lie. To be concerned and pray about the problem is the minimum we can do.” End of soapbox—you may go back to your parents. . .

In conclusion, the Youth Group continues to enjoy being and growing together. May the good Lord bless!!!!”

After Prison Concert:

Posted by thesinger on May 25, 2008

We gave two short programs. One at the South Unit and one at the Central. The Lord blessed us at both places. We were able to sing with confidence, to share our message of hope, and to shed some light to those who were looking for it.

The first program was small. We sang in a small room with about 10 guys in attendance. It was small, we could fill the room with sound, and we worshiped God! It was a good time!

The second program was in a large, dead-sounding auditorium. We were on an elevated stage and felt far away from our audience. It was a far more difficult to sing with power and agility. We did our best to huddle over the mikes and gave it all we had. We hope the sound got out there because we certainly couldn’t hear anything coming back at us. The feedback we got from the guys, however, was positive. It was a joy to be of service in the Kingdom. . .

May you have a peaceful Sunday, and the Lord’s blessings to all!!

Before Prison Concert:

Posted by thesinger on May 25, 2008

It’s 6:12 AM. I’m trying to be awake so that I can go to church to warm-up with the other homies at 6:45 so that we can be out at the prison at 7:45, mostly warmed up, and very ready to sing. It’s a good life. . .

Joke of the Day:The Amateur Photographer

Posted by thesinger on May 20, 2008

An amateur photographer was invited to dinner with friends,
and he took along a few pictures to show to them. The
hostess looked at the photos and commented, “These are very
good! You must have a good camera.”

The photographer didn’t make any comment, but as he was
leaving to go home, he said, “That was a really delicious
meal! You must have some very good pots.”

Youth Picnic

Posted by thesinger on May 17, 2008

It was a party. My ankle didn’t bother me much at all, and I was able to walk around all I wanted to without pain. Now, for some pictures. Which is why, I am guessing here, that 65% of my readers actually read my blog on a regular basis. It’s just a hunch, I don’t know for sure.

The majority of the people ride down on one of two grain trucks. It’s just pile on and have a party time!!!

The ride down was chilly, and Jon was not so convinced that the combination of bright sunlight and very chilly breezes was all that appetizing. Therefore, he just closed his eyes and tried to shut out the painful world as much as possible. . .

After an inspirational skit, some singing, some delicious food, the games began. Softball, volleyball, and basketball were the main games of the day. This is Nathan Nisly, hamming it up!!!

Because the combined size of Cedar Crest YG and Center YG, the picnic is a fairly massive gathering. One simply must choose who one wants to hang out with, and then stick close. Clinton happened to be one of my hanging buddies for part of the afternoon. . .

I captured one picture that I thought was moderately hysterical. Josh was shooting Marilyn, who happens to dislike being shot with a passion! This shows up nicely in this next photo. . .

The ride home was primarily peaceful, except for the necessary wind, as is evidenced by this next picture of Alicia. The hair has a nice pattern imho. . .

Much peace and love to all as you live life to the fullest. . .

Much Water. . .

Posted by thesinger on May 16, 2008

. . . has passed under the proverbial bridge. I have graduated from high school, I am now working full time for Miller Seed Farms, my ankle is currently sprained since I landed on a friends foot while playing volleyball, and many other things happened since I last posted.

Graduation went smoothly. There were few surprises, and very little out of the ordinary happened.

The party on the following day was great. I spent the majority of the day hanging out with some cousins at the coffee shop, at the park, at Arthurs, etc., etc. It was NICE.

These fine people are known to modern man as Random Thinker and Teresa Miller, who graced me with their presence for the exclusive purposes to celebrate my graduation and to party. Trust me, we had a nice time!!!!

The youth picnic is tomorrow. It will be a good experience, if for nothing else, because I want it to be.

Later,

Graduation

Posted by thesinger on May 7, 2008

Graduation is a complicated tradition that comes once a year to commemorate three or four years of daily suffering that takes place prior to the actual event of Graduation. Ok, so the dictionary definition goes something like this:
1. an act of graduating; the state of being graduated.
2. the ceremony of conferring degrees or diplomas, as at a college or school.
3. arrangement in degrees, levels, or ranks.

At my school, which happens to closely affiliated with Pilgrim Christian Schools, however, tradition dictates. Yeah, and you ask what it dictates? It’s a one-word answer–everything. :) Ach vell, we grin, and enjoy!!! I mean, what would you do without tradition to tell you what clothes you have to wear at what point of the evening, how to decorate your table at the party, what songs you sing, when you sing them, who sings them, and where you stand to get your patties shaken by the entire community. It’s a good time; it really is.

Oh, one of the nicer things about Graduation, is that the entire weekend turns into one big party. For example, we, the seniors, invited about a-lot-of-people to an after-graduation party at Center. Tradition dictates that after that party, you need to go play shop basketball at where else? The Shop! The next morning, you drag yourself out of bed after having gotten to bed at approx 2 o’clock or later, and go hang out all day at the end-of-school picnic, otherwise known as the last day of school. All day, you play yourself weary with basketball, softball, perhaps an occasional lousy game of outdoor volleyball, and of course, lots of socializing. I think you are getting the idea. It is a good time!!!!

Later, and much peace, love, parties, etc., etc.,
