Over.

Posted by thesinger on February 28, 2008

I’m tired, bushed, droopy, consumed, fatigued, etc., etc.

The speech is done, and now I feel as though I can move on with life. I believe the biggest thing that irritates me about “speechifying” is that while preparing, my life essentially goes on hold. I DON’T like that!!

I’m done talking for now.

Quotations by Marian Anderson

Posted by thesinger on February 27, 2008

As long as you keep a person down, some part of you has to be down there to hold him down, so it means you cannot soar as you otherwise might.

Fear is a disease that eats away at logic and makes man inhuman.

I suppose I might insist on making issues of things. But that is not my nature, and I always bear in mind that my mission is to leave behind me the kind of impression that will make it easier for those who follow.

None of us is responsible for the complexion of his skin. This fact of nature offers no clue to the character or quality of the person underneath.

When I sing, I don’t want them to see that my face is black. I don’t want them to see that my face is white. I want them to see my soul. And that is colorless.

There are many persons ready to do what is right because in their hearts they know it is right. But they hesitate, waiting for the other fellow to make the make the first move, and he, in turn, waits for you.
– All from Marian Anderson, 1897 – 1993

Today was peaceful.

Posted by thesinger on February 23, 2008

I got virtually no “work” done today, but, I had fun doing nothing. 🙂

In an hour I plan to go out to eat with some of my coffee homies to fulfill the loss that rnisly and I suffered at the hands of Kev and Jac. i.e. We’ll be buying them supper. . .

After the food has taken residence inside my stomach, we kiddos plan to attend a local theater production of Fiddler on the Roof. We hope it will be enjoyable. . .

I am going to do more nothing. . .

Rest for My Voice

Posted by thesinger on February 21, 2008

Today was the first day in six days when I didn’t have a rehearsal or a concert.
Yesterday I sang at the funeral and graveside.
Tuesday, I attended a Kansas Youth Chorus rehearsal.
Monday, I attended a Reno Choral Society rehearsal where we rehearsed Messiah, by Handel.
Sunday, I sang at my brother’s “second wedding” to use Loyal’s terms.
Saturday, the A.S. practiced the music for my brother’s “second wedding”. (This is when the A.S. found out he was engaged, btw.)
Friday, a random quartet consisting of Shane, Karen, Rosene, and myself, sang at the Youth Valentines Banquet.

My singing schedule is rarely as intense as it was this week–for this I am very grateful–but when it does happen, I joyfully step onto the stage and sing my heart away!!!!!! Vocal rest, though, is something I do appreciate when it occurs.

I am planning to attend a Bible Study at Gary Millers tonight and will have to finish this post speedily to achieve physical cleanliness and still get to the Study on time.

Later,

Tired

Posted by thesinger on February 20, 2008

Today was Evie’s funeral. It was a God-honoring funeral, but as funerals for relatives normally go, it was quite exhausting. I didn’t catch on how tired I was until I climbed into my nice Accord and drove home. Sigh. . .

I assisted with the special singing during the service and burial, even though it was mildly strange to sing during the funeral of a cousin. God allowed the tears to come during the family share time before the service and held them back during the service/viewing. Praise the Lord!

School resumes again tomorrow which is good, but not so good if it hits you in the face like an aqueous towel. A slight dripping sensation down the front of the chest is not often solicited.

May your life be filled with stupendous joy in Christ,

Joke of the day:Photo Apology

Posted by thesinger on February 19, 2008

Photographer Ruth Van Bergen specialized in celebrity
portraits. One wealthy woman complained that Van Bergen’s
photo wasn’t nearly as good as the first one she had taken.

“You must forgive me,” the photographer said diplomatically.
“The last time I took your picture, I was ten years
younger.”

FUN FUN FUN

Posted by thesinger on February 18, 2008

The Anonymous Somebodies sang at my brother Floyd’s reception here in KS today. It was fun to get together with my singing homies and jam-out/lead-in-worship again. We got together on Saturday night to practice the three songs (Shout to the Lord, Sounding Joy, and Peter Lutkin’s The Lord Bless You and Keep You.) that Florcas wanted us to sing.

Sounding Joy was a new one for us before Saturday night, but we gleefully tackled it, and “mastered it” with approx. 1.5 hours of practice. (“Mastered it” in this case means that we could sing through the entire song w/out messing up drastically, and that we could have lots of fun doing it.) In an ideal situation, we would have approx. a month of regular practices to fine-tune/clean-up some loose ends in the song, but we didn’t, so we made the best of it.

Shout to the Lord was perhaps an average performance; fun, but not that amazing.

Lutkin’s The Lord Bless You and Keep You was perhaps our technically best performance as well as our most fun performance of that song. I.e. GOOD TIMES!

The acoustics were INCREDIBLE. We were standing just inside the sanctuary in the back with one mike. The best part was that we could actually hear ourselves come over the PA system. I thought that maybe if we were hearing ourselves the sound man had turned us up too high. But nope, my bro Loyal, may he rest in pieces, said that it was amped just about right. I heard another question from an aunt of mine that went like this, “Did you use a mike?” GOOD TIMES!

Ok, so enough ramblings about a rockin’ “concert”.

ps. Heidi is leaving for the fair land of Hillcrest for 6 months. 😦 Sadness. Weeping. Gnashing of teeth. All will be fine in the end. . . A six month break won’t hurt us. . . (maybe)

Good morning all you fine readers.

Posted by thesinger on February 13, 2008

Well, it’s not quite morning, but you at least received the message that I am greeting you with much more vigor than normal, and that I consider you to be very fine readers. (I’m not sure how a reader could be a “bad” reader.)

I am sensing a slightly brainless post coming on about tonight’s activities, what I did today, and some random observations. . . Read at your own risk.

First, I will be attending a normal Wed. evening church service where a layperson will share on the topic with which he has been assigned. This time, the topic is called “Making Life Rich Without Any Money” by Perry Lee Stutzman. I think what we have here is a good mesh between topic and speaker. It will be quite amazing.

I went to school today. I told Mr. Schrock a weak pun that I will tell to you now. (Mr. Schrock really likes puns, btw.) “Why do skunks like Valentines Day so much? Because they’re so sentimental.” End of pun. VERY FUNNY HAHAHAHA. Well, something like that.

I also ate food today. All except one bite of it was very good.

I also felt very tired today since I worked so hard the evening before and because I talked to a dear friend for a very long time last night. . .

Random observation #1: I am anticipating attending Shenandoah Christian Music Camp in the early summer of this year. It is tentative as of yet, but “things” are looking VERY hopeful. . .

Random observation #2:I need to get ready to go to church soon.

Random observation #3:The youth have a Valentines social planned for Friday night. It should be appropriately random. Aren’t all Kansas YG events random?
